      Tail Rotor Assembly Inspection Tool for H-60 A/L or M

      TM/IETM TASK REFERENCE(S): TM 1520-237-23 – [WP 0594 00, WP 1259 00] – 31 JULY 2012, Tail Rotor Hub and Blade Assembly

      Current field-expedient method is not standardized to quickly and accurately measure inspection gap tolerances and limits for the De-Ice stationary and rotating distributor, the IVHMS Tail Rotor Magnetic Pick-Up Interrupter, and the retention plate mounting bolt thread exposure limits.

      A simple hand-carry inspection tool can improve the inspection efficiency of these components. New design is engineered to be small, accurate, and inclusive of all critical measurements.

      Technology Solutions & Benefits

      The TRAIT-60-AA serves as a one-piece, multiple function inspection guide to effectively check tolerances in the De-Ice stationary and rotating distributor and the IVHMS Tail Rotor Magnetic Pick-Up Interrupter gap tolerances. It can then be used to quickly check the retention plate mounting bolt thread exposure tolerances.

      How It Works

      • The TRAIT is a precision machined, single-piece, brushed stainless steel GO/NO-GO gauge.
      • Each end is a GO/NO-GO gauge for the Tail Rotor outboard retention plate bolt thread exposure: one end ensures a minimum exposure over 0.080”; the other ensures a maximum exposure under 0.125”.
      • The wing tips ensure the de-ice distributor slip ring gap maintains a clearance of between 0.089” and 0.105”.
      • The half-circular cut-ins ensure the IVHMS Tail Rotor Magnetic Pick-Up Interrupter gap is between 0.015” and 0.025”.
      • The gap on the IVHMS Swashplate Interrupter can be inspected and verified.
      • All gauging surfaces are milled to within 0.002” tolerance.

        Spindle Puller for UH-60 A/L/M

        The H60 Main Rotor Blade (SP-60-AA) Spindle Puller is used to effectively pull the spindle free from the Main Rotor Hub Assembly. As a one-person task, it is designed to control the removal of the spindle, even if stuck due to corrosion or abrasion.

        Every Spindle Puller is delivered in a Pelican case with custom MIL-spec foam cushioning, allowing for easy and safe transportation or storage.

        The Spindle Puller is comprised of a single base plate with three ACME driver assemblies threaded to hex nut holders that push against the main rotor hub. The driver assembly rods have driver feet that allow to for self-articulation and adjustment when pushing against the hub. Spindle stainless steel cross pins with retaining plungers are inserted into the main rotor blade cuff lugs allowing the tool to safely pull the spindle free from the hub as it pushes against the base plate. A safety retention nylon webbing attached to the spindle plate, using a safety retainer puck inserted into the hub spindle inspection port, catches the spindle once it is freed, preventing it from being dropped.

          The EAA Tools Blade & Spindle Washer Alignment Tool (previously known as the Blade & Spindle Cuff Alignment Tool) is an off-the-shelf, all-in-one replacement for a) WP 2014 00, Figure 43, b) WP 1602 00, Figure 32, and c) WP 1602 00, Figure 200. The EAA Tools Blade & Spindle Washer Alignment Tool completes both blade and spindle washer alignment/replacement tasks with notable performance, usability, and quality improvements over the standard design.

          Notable Design Improvements

          • Kit contains centering tools compatible with both Blade and Spindle Cuff washers–doubling the utility of the tool.
          • Centering tools are dislodged during the tightening action, preventing unwanted adhesion to the blade or spindle.
          • Centering tool material is now smooth plastic rather than hard metal, ensuring that even damaged tools fit without interference.
          • Top pressure plate includes a reduced outer diameter to prevent unwanted adhesion.
          • Top pressure plate includes slotting to accommodate prying action from a standard screwdriver.

          Kit Configuration Options

          1. Single bushing kit (1 clamp-up set, 1 spindle and 1 blade insert).
          2. Single Blade/Spindle Kit (2 clamp sets, 2 spindle and 2 blade inserts).

            Chip Detector Removal Tool for UH-60 A/L/M

            The UH-60 Chip Detector Removal Tool is used to shut off flow, remove, and install the main module sump chip detector and strainer assembly. A compact, functional design greatly reduces the chance of component damage and enables a single operator to perform the task.

            The UH-60 Chip Detector Removal Tool is designed to fit precisely on the chip detector sleeve and rotate the strainer to the ON or OFF flow position. The tool’s prying function is then used to ease chip detector away from transmission sump, breaking the hydraulic suction lock. The operator uses only one hand to operate the UH-60 Chip Detector Removal Tool, allowing the other hand to be used to collect draining oil safely and easily. Removal of the chip detector/strainer is performed quickly, easily, and safely; no work package tool is available in the IETM that can perform this task.
